RPMGlobal launches nextgen mobile asset management solution AMT Mobile

RPMGlobal selected IMARC in Sydney last week to attend I AM, to introduce its next-generation mobile asset management solution, AMT Mobile. AMT Mobile is a dedicated application that enables field technicians, managers and supervisors to digitize forms and processes while working remotely. The solution seamlessly integrates with SAP, providing critical data to the company’s employees.

This app can also be used both online and offline, making it ideal for underground operations or sites without comprehensive Wi-Fi coverage. Employees simply go about their daily tasks, and when they reconnect, AMT Mobile syncs the data entered during their shift.

According to David Batkin, RPM’s executive director of product strategy, the app will change the way maintenance professionals collaborate, receive and analyze information. “AMT Mobile puts information in the hands of users and takes away the arduous task of filling out sheets of paper every shift,” he said.

Many mining processes have long been paper-based, including asset checks, security checks, and various to-do lists. This makes reliable data capture, data entry and storage an error-prone process.

“It’s hard to believe these days that we can still rely on a person filling out their work on paper, submitting that paper, and then having someone else type it into a computer,” Batkin said. “AMT Mobile lets you do it all at the same time on your mobile device. We all use mobile devices in other aspects of our lives, it doesn’t make sense to rely on archaic systems created decades ago to get our work done,” he said.

AMT Mobile is designed to improve, automate and digitize inspection and checklist processes in the asset management space. With this digitization, it replaces paper systems and manual post-operational data entry. Data is instantly available while improving compliance and auditability across the organization. Capturing and entering data in real-time in a structured manner provides the business with more accurate reporting while meeting the company’s audit compliance and data retention requirements.

AMT Mobile is based on the industry-leading asset management software solution AMT, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. AMT is designed exclusively for mining and is used to manage or track over 50% of the world’s large mining equipment by miners, OEMs, distributors and contractors worldwide.

The first generation AMT mobile device used HTML technology to access a web page where the field worker could enter their data. This tool served the industry well for several years; however, this latest version of the application works on both Android and iOS systems.

The solution provides notifications when a potential problem or observation about a property is detected. Notifications can include elements such as distribution, priority, cause of problem, or damage that has already occurred. With a mobile phone in the user’s hands, they can scan QR codes to reach equipment, access the device’s camera to add photos as corroborating evidence, or add voice to text, streamlining subsequent correction processes.

“When we build something new at RPM, we try to make incremental changes to the current way, and AMT Mobile definitely ticks that box. The complete elimination of the paper process is not only a huge benefit for users, but also for the environment,” said Batkin.
