Jury members at the Red Sea International Film Festival include Oscar nominee Kaouther Ben Hania, Saudi director Shahad Amin and Egyptian star Nelly Karim.
The Red Sea International Film Festival, in partnership with Vox Cinemas and MBC Group, has announced the jury for the Red Sea: Features and Red Sea: Shorts competition for its second edition, which will take place from December 1 to 10 in Jeddah.
The festival will welcome filmmakers, talent, media, industry professionals and film lovers to celebrate world cinema over 10 days.
Legendary film director, producer and screenwriterOliver Stone will be led by the Jury of the Red Sea Festival: Feature Competition. The three-time Academy Award winner is behind some of the greatest cinematic masterpieces of all time, including Scar face, Door, Wall Street, JFK, Midnight Express, Plato, Nixon was born on the fourth of July, and Natural born killers.
Commenting on his role, Red Sea Film Competition Jury President Oliver Stone said: “I am honored to be invited to chair the jury for the second edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival and, together with my fellow jury members, we are thrilled to be able to watch a diverse and original select movies. This is a unique opportunity for all of us to recognize and celebrate the best work of filmmakers from the Arab world, Asia and Africa. I am really looking forward to this experience.”
RedSeaIFF CEO Mohammed Al Turki added: “We are truly grateful to our three esteemed judges for their valuable time and I look forward to seeing them all at the festival. The selection this year is exceptional and represents the highest creative achievements from the Arab world, Asia and Africa. I am sure that this will be an exciting and demanding task in selecting the winners.
Jury Chairman, Oliver Rock will be joined by Egyptian star Nelly Karim (blue elephant), Oscar nominee Kaouther Ben Hania (The man who sold his skin), acclaimed Georgian film director Levan Koguashvili (Blind dates) and Palestinian actor Ali Suleiman (Paradise now).
Red Sea: the shorts competition will be judged by director Joana HadjithomasMemory box), Saudi writer and director Shahad Ameen (Scales) and Nigerian actor Ozzie Agu (The Missing Okoroshi).
The Red Sea: Features and Red Sea: Shorts competitions will showcase the highest creative achievements of various filmmakers from the Arab region, Asia and Africa. A line-up of 15 feature-length and 26 short films will showcase the most compelling and impressive work of the past year, with the winners in each competition chosen by highly regarded juries.
Red Sea: The VR section, featuring the latest selection of leading virtual reality (VR) stories and art projects from both in- and out-of-competition award-winning international artists and directors. This part will be judged by a London-based Egyptian documentary filmmaker May Abdalla, Bangladeshi artist Naima Karim and Tribeca Film Festival immersive curator Ana Brzezinski.
